Mendip Hills AONB Sustainable Development Fund grants available

Funding is available to support projects that bring environmental, social, economic benefits to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The Sustainable Development Fund grant scheme, now in its 7th year, has £37000 to award in 2011/12.  Last year 14 grants were awarded to a wide variety of projects including the Mendip Hills Barn Owl project (Hawk and Owl Trust), interpretation panels at Dolebury Warren (Avon Wildlife Trust), solar thermal system (Fernhill Farm), rainwater capture system (Warren Farm), Festival of Archaeology (Wells Museum and Somerset Wildlife Trust), and an access ramp at Sladers Leigh Reserve(Mendip Society).

Priorities for funding this year are projects that demonstrate strong community support and involve volunteers. The maximum grant available is £5000 although in exceptional circumstances larger grants may be made. As the Panel wish to see a wide geographical spread of projects, applications for grants of less than £2000 are encouraged.

The Mendip Hills AONB Sustainable Development Fund Panel meets several times during the year to consider applications. The next deadline for applications is 16th May 2011. The Panel will meet on 23rd May to consider applications received by this date.

Further dates and deadlines for applications are available on our Sustainable Development page http://www.mendiphillsaonb.org.uk/sustaining/ together with application forms and guidance information.
If you would like to discuss the Panel member position or a project with a view to obtaining a SDF grant, please contact Sarah Jackson  01761 462338.
