The Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership is holding its annual forum on Thursday 10th November 2011 at Folly Farm (Avon Wildlife Trust), Near Bishop Sutton.
The event is open to anyone with an interest in the Mendip Hills and who would like to find out more about what makes it special and opportunities for the future. You may be a resident, visitor or local business for example.
AONBs are not wilderness areas or areas where natural beauty derives purely from natural processes, but a group of distinct and recognisable areas arising from a long history of human occupation using the areas natural resources.
The AONB designation, through legislation and guidance, requires the conservation and enhancement of these nationally cherished areas recognising their value as both national assets as providers of food, fuel, water, and highly valued local places that provide a sense of well being, recreation, and basis for business.
The day, 9.30am – 2.00pm, includes presentations from local businesses and Natural England and a local produce lunch. There will also be a session to consider local issues and identify new opportunities that will both, enhance the area and support the local economy.
Booking by 3rd November is essential please – the day is limited to 50 attendees Full Programme and Booking Form
