Mendip Hills AONB Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) – seeks new panel members

The Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is seeking two new people for their SDF Panel. The SDF is funded by Defra to provide grants for projects that bring social, environmental and economic benefits to the AONB.

The SDF Panel has awarded £430,170 in grants since 2005/6. This year grants have been awarded to the Hawk and Owl Trust bird awareness project, Avon Wildlife Trust’s Landscape Explorer project working with Bishop Sutton school children, and Wells and Mendip Museum with Somerset Wildlife Trust for Mendip Rocks and Festival of Archaeology events.

The five current panel members represent business, community and environmental interests. The Panel are seeking to recruit two new volunteer members that can offer community art and land management expertise. For example, you may be an artist who works with local communities/local organisation, or a farmer or landowner with experience of biodiversity/conservation and or public access matters.

If you are interested in being considered for the panel that meets approximately 4 times a year please contact Sarah Jackson, AONB Manager for an informal chat. Alternatively email SJackson@somerset.gov.uk with a short statement stating experience, your interest in the Mendip Hills AONB and contact details.

Deadline for expressions of interest is midday Monday 12th December. The Panel will then short list and invite those selected to its next meeting in January 2012.
