Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) – Annual Forum 2011
Greater business networking, promotion of trails and local produce were amongst ideas highlighted at the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership annual forum.
The event held 10th November at Folly Farm (Avon Wildlife Trust) in the beautiful Chew Valley was attended by 45 representatives of local businesses, organisations local authorities and parish councils.
Presentations from the AONB Unit and Natural England (NE) highlighted the unique character of the area and the importance of long term planning for its care. The National Character Area work being undertaken by NE will identify opportunities for the area that will both, enhance the area and support the local economy.
Coast One Planet Tourism stressed the importance of good communication for sharing ideas, branding and a common sense approach to sustainable tourism can benefit businesses. Local businesses Go Wild, Fernhill Farm and Bristol Water all illustrated how their businesses are dependent on the Mendip Hills being a healthy, well managed landscape.
The AONB Partnership will be including the issues and ideas raised into their AONB Management Plan review. It is hoped that resources can be identified to take forward a number of the actions identified as part of the AONB Delivery Plan 2012/13.
