October sees the start of the Mendip Hills AONB autumn/winter volunteer programme. A range of tasks including fence construction, scrub clearance to benefit wildlife and learning the traditional skill of hedge laying will run once a fortnight on Tuesdays throughout most of the year.
Volunteering is a great way to get out and about, keep fit, meet new people and have some fun, as well as help care for the precious AONB landscape. The summer programme of practical tasks including path construction, meadow management and dry stone walling that took place between April and August contributed 275 volunteer hours to the work of the AONB Partnership.
The work completed by volunteers is always highly valued and, in most cases undertakes work that would otherwise not happen. No previous experience is required as staff are always on hand to show you the ropes. You can join all our work days or just join in every once in a while.
