Ranger News March 2013

The hills seem to be recovering from the floods of previous months.

March has been bitterly cold. One of the good things about this is that the ground has been hard enough for the trailers, that have been up on Black Down since June last year, to come off the hill!
The walking is much easier and the people I am meeting are happy to be out and about and checking on their landscape. There is much comment on damage done by bikes and horses.

There have been the odd warm days and I had coffee twice up on the lime stone pavement this month, once watching a cyclist ride up the stone outcrop and over the other side.

Lots of molehills along the paths up on Burrington Ham, are they re building after the wet weather, and the soil by the paths is easier to dig than under the paths themselves?

Deer Leap had new tyre tracks coming from the bridle path up to the car park, I also took apart stone around a fire pit just below the gate on the bridle-path.

After the rain and floods of previous months this has been a month of really good walking weather and a delight to be out and about on these hills.
