Blackmoor Reserve, a scheduled monument site owned and managed by Somerset County Council, has recently been visited by our Practical Tasks volunteers. The condensing flues, dating back to the Victorian era of the mining history at Charterhouse, are very fragile and have been fenced off. Work is occasionally carried out in order for the vegetation which grows up around the remains of the flues, to be kept under control. Our team carefully picked their way around the site, clearing old bracken, bramble and grasses by hand. They have done a great job so far, with another day scheduled in soon to tackle the rest of the site before spring properly springs!
