Earth Science Centre
We had a great visit to Somerset Earth Science Centre in East Mendips. The day started with some hedge cutting and coppicing next to the centre and after lunch Juliette took us to visit Whatley Quarry. We drove down to the bottom of the quarry in the minibus and watched the huge diggers and lorries moving the stone around.
This month we ventured to our neighbouring AONB, the Quantock Hills. Here we were met by Ranger Rebekah and Moss the dog. We started at the coast at Kilve where we collected litter and looked for fossils. After lunch we drove up onto the hills and went for a walk around the area learning about management of the heathland using swaling (controlled burning of the heather).
