Book Launch-The Historic Landscape of the Mendip Hills

Photo Diana Jarvis Greentraveller Limited Cheddar Gorge towards Brent KnollAs part of Festival of Archaeology (11th- 26th July) the Mendip Hills AONB is launching the new Historic England publication on the archaeology and architecture of the Mendip Hills.

The morning event will take place on Thursday 23rd July at Cheddar Caves with a series of short presentations including one by the books author, Elaine Jamieson. Other presentations include ‘The Gorge and the National Trust’ by Martin Papworth, ‘Rock End and the lost cottages’ by Sue Shaw and ‘The Lure of cliffs and Caves’ by Linda Carter.

The event is free to attend but booking is essential as there are limited places.

In the afternoon at 1.30pm there is a guided ‘Walk around historic Cheddar’ led by local researcher Sue Shaw. There is a charge of £5 per person, pre booking essential as limited to 15 places.

Sarah Jackson, Mendip Hills AONB Manager said “We hope that whether people are attending the morning and/or afternoon event they make a day of it and visit Cheddar’s many local cafes and pubs for refreshments whilst discovering the historic and iconic landscape”
