Cheddar Walking – 5th Sept Cheddar Gorge and Reservoir guided walks
Only the fifth community in Somerset to gain the status, Cheddar Walking succeeded in winning local support from traders for the idea of putting the village firmly on the map for walkers. The guided walks on the Saturday will mark the official start of the Group’s bid to make walking in and around Cheddar a great experience.
At 10.30a.m Cheddar Gorge Walk is a strenuous 2 hour walk up and around the cliff tops of the Gorge led by the National Trust. Meet outside the NT shop & information centre in the Gorge. Sturdy footwear and appropriate outdoor clothing is essential. If heavy rain or strong wind on the day this walk may be cancelled.
2.00pm Cheddar Reservoir walk is an easy 1 hour level walk suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs and offers views up to the Mendips led by the Mendip Society Walk leader Gill Davies. Meet in Cheddar reservoir car park off Sharpham Road.
Cheddar Walking chairman, Huw Robson said ‘these and other local walks will shortly be downloadable from the Cheddar Walking web site and the NT shop & information centre . We are delighted to be working with the NT and Mendip Society on promoting these local walks and we plan to offer other guided walks in the future with a variety of organisations to encourage local residents and visitors to discover Cheddars archaeology, history , wildlife and surrounding landscape’.
Walker are Welcome stickers are now being displayed in the windows of Cheddar businesses who are supportive of the initiative and provide facilities and or information for walkers.
