Young Rangers First Aiding

On Saturday 14th November, we all went to the St Hugh’s church and took part in a first aid course. We learnt how to apply a bandage to a wound (we made gross fake wounds for this)how to apply both different types of slings and how to rescue people in case of emergency. In that last task, we recreated a rescue mission with teams of people carrying the adults in a portable stretcher- luckily Nic was wearing a helmet! We all got to practise CPR on slightly creepy looking dolls, and learnt how to use a defibrillator in case of emergency. Additionally, we were put into groups of boys and girls and had to get under a special sheet to keep people warm- since there’s twice as many boys as girls, we were a little bit more comfortable than the boys. We all learnt some really valuable information in the course and got certificates at the end. I very much enjoyed the day- although maybe not the fake blood bit- *shudder*.
