The Fund that Helps the Hills is Open for Applications During October
The Mendip Hills AONB Unit and Somerset Community Foundation are pleased to announce that the latest grant round for the Mendip Hills Fund is open for applications from 1st – 31st October.
Grant funding of up to £2,000 is available for projects which are working to conserve and enhance the environment, communities and economy of the Mendip Hills AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and East Mendip through to Frome.
Grants will be awarded to support community and voluntary group projects, and in some cases businesses, that:
• Conserve and enhance the landscape
• Increase awareness, understanding and enjoyment of the area
• Support social and economic initiatives including enhancing community facilities or support for start-up of social enterprises, e.g. local food initiatives.
- The Mendip Hills Fund supported this art project in Blagdon.
Jim Hardcastle, Mendip Hills AONB Manager said, ‘This is ‘Mendip Money’ raised by visitors and events that use the area and is really simple to apply for. Last year we funded a wide variety of projects like transport to the area for a mental health charity, internationally important archaeological work, marquees for a community organisation and work to make a forest school site for the Mendip Society.‘
The fund was set up with the Mendip Hills AONB Partnership, and income is generated through visitor-giving schemes in the area and donations for Mendip Hills wildlife badges.
If you are running a project in the Mendip area and you are not sure if you fit the criteria for application to the Mendip Hills Fund, please visit Somerset Community Foundation
web site or call Jim Hardcastle, Mendip Hills AONB Unit 01761 462338 or SCF Programmes Manager Jocelyn Blacker on 01749 344949. You can apply online from 1st October and the deadline for submission of applications is the 31st October.
