Outstanding Week sees the AONB Family working together to offer a week (and a bit) long programme of events that help connect people with nature and be inspired by the UK’s 46 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs). This year it runs from Saturday 15th September and continues through to Sunday 23rd September.
AONBs are some of the most beautiful, cherished and outstanding landscapes in the UK. They are living, working landscapes and offer a wealth of opportunities for people to enjoy and benefit from.
During Outstanding Week there are plenty of opportunities for you to get out and enjoy everything AONBs have to offer; local food and drink, country shows, dark sky discovery nights, walking festivals, archaeology walks, wood fairs, foraging, wildlife walks, coastal and marine days, thatching courses, drystone walling competitions, charcoal making, bioblitz, inspiration through art and music and many, many other activities.
As part of Outstanding Week the Mendip Hills has a Natural Resources talk on 18 September starting at 7pm. Geologist David Rowley from Wells Cathedral School will guide you through Mendip’s unique geo resources. On 22 September there is a Stone Carving Workshop with Tanya Josham. See here for further information.
We look forward to you joining us to learn why September is such an Outstanding month.
