The grand tour of geological highlights on the Mendip Hills. We will examine the rocks, fossils and structure of the Carboniferous strata of the north and south limb of the Mendip’s largest pericline and the Triassic strata of its core.
Walk will be led by Professor Tony Watts. The route will take in Burrington Combe, The Combe at Sidcot and on to Shute Shelve Tunnel and will involve driving between sites. Sturdy shoes/boots should be worn.
Bring a hammer/hand lens/clinometer if you have them, if not this equipment will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch.
