This site uses cookies - what are they?
Persistent Client-State HTTP Cookies are files containing information about visitors to a web site (e.g. user name and preferences). This information is provided by the user during the first visit to a web server. The server records this information in a text file and stores this file on the visitor's hard drive. When the visitor accesses the same web site again the server looks for the cookie and configures itself based on the information provided.

Are cookies damaging to my computer?
Absolutely not. Cookies sent by the Mendip Hills AONB site are for the purpose of helping you to get the best out of your visit.

My computer won't allow cookies from this site. Can I change this?
There are two ways to allow cookies on Internet Explorer (the most common browser). The first allows this site only to send cookies:
Click tools in the menu bar
Click on Internet options
Click on privacy
Click on the edit button at the bottom where it says websites
enter the URL - http://www.mendiphills.org.uk
and click the allow button

The second method is a more general method that allows you to accept cookies from any site on the Internet:
Click tools in the menu bar
Click on Internet options
Click on privacy
Click on advanced
Check (tick) the override auto cookie handling button
Check the first party cookies allow button as "accept" or "prompt"
Do the same for third party cookies

With Internet Explorer on a Mac the process is simpler:
Choose Preferences from the Edit menu
In the left hand column under Receiving Files click Cookies
At the pull-down menu When receiving select Never Ask, Ask for each site or Ask for each cookie

Absolutely not. Here is our privacy statement:
Information supplied to us through the use of this site is treated with the utmost respect for the submitter's privacy. Email addresses are used only for the purposes of communication between the reader and Mendip Hills AONB, and will not be disclosed, sold, lent or traded with a third party for any reason whatsoever. Demographic information, where requested is a voluntary disclosure and is used solely for the purposes of measuring market statistics.
