Somerset’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Somerset’s AONB Nature and Wellbeing Project is a 2.5 year project funded by Somerset
Public Health running from February 2016 to August 2018. The project aims to develop and coordinate a sustainable initiative that enables local people to improve their physical and mental wellbeing by participating in informal activities on the Blackdown, Mendip and Quantock Hills.

The work includes supporting people to tackle barriers that prevent them from experiencing the health and wellbeing benefits of these top quality natural environments and setting up particular activities and events for specific groups.

In the Mendip Hills, the project focuses on targeting communities that lie in Wells, Cheddar and Burnham-on-Sea. Initially the project officer has started to develop ideas with health partners in the area, including; Health Connections, In Charley’s Memory, FIT Cheddar/Cheddar Patients Group, Cheddar Walking for Health, Friends of Cheddar Library, Mendip Hills AONB Volunteers and Somerset Art Works.
